Virginia General Assembly

Virginia has a bicameral state legislature, called the General Assembly. The House of Delegates consists of 100 delegates, elected in odd-numbered years for a two-year term beginning in January of the following even-numbered year. The Virginia Senate consists of 40 senators, elected in odd-numbered years immediately preceding a presidential election year (i.e., 1999, 2003, 2007, ...) for a four-year term beginning in January of the following year.
