Walter Beaman Jones Jr. (R) represents North Carolina's 3rd district in the U.S. House of Representatives. He was first elected in 1994 as a Republican, after losing the 1992 election when he ran as a Democrat. His father, Walter B. Jones, Sr., was a Democratic member of the U.S. House for 26 years.
Jones was born in Farmville, Pitt County, N.C. on February 10, 1943. He graduated from Atlantic Christian College (now Barton College) in 1966. Like many Congressman's sons, he avoided the Vietnam War by serving in the North Carolina National Guard from 1967-1971. He was a member of the North Carolina state house of representatives from 1983-1992.
Iraq War Votes
- Jones was one of two Republicans who voted in favor of HR 1591, which set a firm deadline of August 31, 2008 for U.S. troops to be out of Iraq. (House Roll Call 186, March 23, 2007).
