Walter Williams is a black wingnut commentator who periodically serves as a guest-host for hate radio hippo Rush Limbaugh. Like most conservatives Williams praises risk as an ideological abstraction but in practice avoids it in favor of security. That is why he works as an economics professor at the very conservative George Mason University for security. Although actually conservative, Williams is skilled at telling libertarian true believers what they want to hear. Williams also cranks out a weekly syndicated editorial column of predictable fare that is read almost exclusively in the United States.

Some conservatives are impressed that Williams is African-American but is ideologically conservative. As such he is an ideal token figure for those whose guilty racism makes them seek reassurance in this form of obvious descriptive representation. Williams is critical of affirmative action, the minimum wage and gun control. Williams praises capitalism: "Capitalism is relatively new in human history. Prior to capitalism, the way people amassed great wealth was by looting, plundering and enslaving their fellow man. Capitalism made it possible to become wealthy by serving your fellow man." Capitalism and the Common Man (1997) What Williams cannot say is that the African slave trade operated as a global capitalist market for centuries.
