-gate: Hackneyed suffix indicative of a political scandal. Stems from the Watergate scandal that led to the resignation of president Richard M. Nixon. Henceforth, all political scandals have been given some derivation of Watergate.

For example: Cigargate, Coingate, Contragate, Falafelgate,Memogate, Nannygate, Plamegate, Troopergate.
