- Pelican Bay, Florida becomes the first U.S. wildlife refuge. In 1970 it comes a Wilderness.
- W.E.B. Dubois publishes The Souls of Black Folk.
- Peter Ivanovich Stuchka becomes a Bolshevik.
- British Colonial Secretary Neville Chamberlain discusses creating a Jewish homeland in Uganda or Kenya. The indigenes are not consulted. The 1903 Sixth Zionist Congress hangs a map of East Africa on the dais. Perhaps in a different timeline this results in an alternative nighmare.
- Britain's Royal Niger Company conquers Kano, Sokoto and Burwari in northern Nigeria; repeating rifles, artillery, and Maxim guns carry the day against spears and flintlocks.
- 25 U.S. Marines are sent to protect the U.S. consul negotiating a treaty with Abyssinia.

- March 30-April 21: U.S. Marines occupy Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
- May 2: Benjamin McLane Spock, the future Dr. Spock, is born in New Haven, Connecticut.
- May 6: Two Socialist Revolutionary Battle Organization militants assassinate the governor of Ufa, N.M. Bogdanovich.
- June 25: Eric Arthur Blair (George Orwell) is born in Motihari, India.
- September 7-12: U.S. Marines occupy Beirut for the first time, but not the last.
- September 23: Wright brothers leave for Kitty Hawk.
- September 27: British authorities in Sudan hang self proclaimed Mahdi Al-Sharif Muhammad al-Amin without a formal trial in front of the village of al-Obeid.
- November 4: U.S. Marines occupy the Isthmus of Panama, which they will continue to do until January 21, 1914.
