User talk:Allamakee Democrat

From dKosopedia

Hi there, nope, I'm not Drew Miller, but I'm an Iowa Democrat. Over the next few days, I hope to finish updating the State House elections page, and I'd appreciate any NE Iowa insight on those elections. - corncam

Am Rong belongs in the category for journalists or press spokespersons. BartFraden.

Deletions

--Jbet777 08:37, 15 April 2006 (PDT)Hi Allamakee, you did it right the first time, although you didn't know it. Those single year Honolulu City Councils have become articles with duplicate info and need to be discarded. Talk about labor intensity, you've everyone beat. Appreciate your efforts.

--Jbet777 08:35, 16 April 2006 (PDT) You should leave a message for Centerfielder, he is an admin that can delete articles for sure. But, Centerfielder isn't around that much. Bart Fraden has been been given admin privledges recently. You might see if he can help you also. I don't know of any other admin besides those two.

dKosopedia has had activity peter off since last summer. There were many admins and contibutors but one by one they've wondered off. Now that elections are around the corner, activity has picked up and I see many new contributors on the 'Recent changes' list.

I think your categorizing is invaluable, keep up the good work.

=======

AD, what are the criteria for the category "Criminal?" Would the criteria include something like "sentenced by a judge and served time in jail?" If that is the case then Lori Berenson, Mohandas K. Gandhi, Abbie Hoffman, Martin Luther King, Jr. and Bob Marley should be included. My concern is that the category is too broad to be useful. Wouldn't it make sense to distinguish between Common Criminals and Political Criminals? Another question: shouldn't there be a page that offers the sets of criteria for inclusion in every category? BartFraden April 17, 2006

April 18, 2006 - AD, thanks for the write ups on Iowa State Senate Dems. However, there were already article on Mike Gronstal and Joe Bolkcom (note spellings). I'll merger your work into those articles, and turn the mispelled names into redirects.

AD, Anonymous troll has returned, and despite his handle he has done much useful work in the past. I would suggest that you ask for his comments on the Categorization project, and see if what he says makes sense. -- Centerfielder 19:11, 18 April 2006 (PDT)

User Pages

Hi! I just noticed that you culled a bunch of moribund User pages last night during your regular daily yeomanlike weeding out of dead and useless pages.

Are you sure that's a good idea (with the obvious exception of the spammer account pages in there)? My understanding, at least, is that user: namespace pages are supposed to be at least a little different from articles or other namespace pages, in that users are supposed to have a little more lattitude to "own" them. I mean, I don't think I've ever seen a user: page on Wikipedia deleted (spammer accounts possibly excepted), although I admittedly haven't been paying that much attention to Wikipedia lately. Anyway, I was just wondering about that. --Ray Radlein 10:19, 21 June 2006 (PDT)

me

Sorry I'm a problem.

I've been told I'm the most conservative liberal out there.

I guess I just hate to see people make America look worse than it deserves too (and these day's that's pretty bad).

I don't like Communists or anyone else who speaks flippantly of Revolution.

page name issues

Hi, you're doing great work, but you've been editing pages that have some dKosopedia:page name issues without renaming them. Please review dKosopedia:page name issue and comment. If you don't agree, say so. If you do agree, please implement the name changes next time you edit the page, or be ready to watch the pages move around possibly breaking some links. It's impossible to ask others to track shifting page names, so it's critical to follow conventions.

Specifically, Iowa Federal elections, 2006 and Iowa Statewide elections, 2006 should almost certainly be Iowa federal elections, 2006 and Iowa statewide elections, 2006.

Also see The dKosopedia Category Project and FrameShop for background on some of the more sophisticated issues in political wikis and namespace conventions needed for these.

And see Talk:Main Page for issues arising from pages that are linked from Main Page. Anonymous troll 10:14, 23 May 2006 (PDT)

Thanks

Thanks for removing the block. I'll continue to work on putting categories on the older pages, and cleaning up what I can. I won't create blank pages, and if I come across one I'll put the rfd tag on them so you can review. Chadlupkes 06:54, 14 June 2006 (PDT)

dKosopedia

I am very glad that I found this. My significant other edits on Daily Kos all the time (molly bloom). I haven't and just found this dKosopedia. I would like to help.... I have been very frustrated at what I have found on Wikipedia. I almost wonder if someone from the Manhattan Institute was paid to promote tort reform on multiple articles. I have made major changes to half a dozen or more articles, including what was a complete trashing of the trial attorney Fred Baron.Leo54 11:25, 17 June 2006 (PDT)

Relax man.

It's not like any damage was done. Grazon 17:07, 21 June 2006 (PDT)

The source of the quotes. Looks like he stopped editing in June of 2004. What say we revamp ALL the quotes, and put them where they should be, or collected in a single article for those where the author doesn't have their own page. Chadlupkes 12:12, 28 June 2006 (PDT)

Wikiverse

Thanks for saying hi at left.wikia.com. It's been a good tool for me. We should add the Wikiverse to the Media sections. Chadlupkes 07:35, 30 June 2006 (PDT)

My talk

This is encyclopedia. (or?) We should write about real things. --Kamikazi 03:35, 1 July 2006 (PDT)

Re: Sound of Silence

Hi there,

Figured I would catch you here easier than on wikia.

I think there's potential both here on dK and wikia that has yet to be tapped. I'm working on a foundation over there, similar to one that I started over here. I don't see the number of older articles here as a disadvantage, honestly. I'm glad to see them. Outdated articles need to be a project target, where people go through the oldest articles to bring them up to date. Sames as Wikipedia (oldest is War of the Castes ‎(18:38, 22 July 2004)). Two years isn't too old, as long as someone is willing to look at them.

The 435 is just a beginning. There's actually 535+1+9, given Congress (House+Senate), Pres (+cabinet) and Supremes (+Federal Benches). I think dK has a place in the Wikiverse that nobody else can bring, which is a comprehensive catalog of people, decisions, and the ThinkTank that we really need to get off the ground. Take a look at progressivecabinet.org. There's part of the picture.

The only way we fail is if we give up. How goes the promotion? That's a question for Kos, I guess.

Keep in touch! Chadlupkes 17:33, 15 July 2006 (PDT)

dKP is possibly salvageable. We have to do the 435 + 100 etc. 535 upload of pics, and better than what Wikipedia does, pov dirt WP would never publish. --Allamakee Democrat 03:47, 17 July 2006 (PDT)

new Iowa category

Hi AD, I created a new category:Iowa candidates as a subcategory of Iowa, and moved your 2006 candidate categories into it. --Corncam 16:14, 15 August 2006 (PDT)

Post election reorg

Hi AD, I'd appreciate your comments on dKosopedia:Post election reorg. --Corncam 10:09, 9 November 2006 (PST)

Eliminating the Sec. of Ag.?

In Bill Northey, you suggest that the position of Iowa Secretary of Agriculture may be eliminated. I'm wondering where you got that idea, since the position (according to the Political Graveyard) has been around at least since 1923 and since the race for that office was (or at least seemed to be) more high-profile than the race for any other statewide office except that of governor. --Tim4christ17 17:17, 2 January 2007 (PST)
