American Center for Voting Rights

The American Center for Voting Rights is a right-wing group that pretends to be for voting rights but is nothing of the sort.
It was led by Mark Hearne (full name Mark F. (Thor) Hearne, II). Hearne has high-level connections to Bush-Cheney and other Republican officials.
Jim Dyke was listed in a press release sent out by the group. Dyke happens to be the Communications Director for the Republican National Committee .
They claim to be a not-for-profit, non-partisan, tax exempt (501c(3) organization. Neither Dyke nor Hearne have provided paperwork as required by law. They also do not seek public donations on their website.
On March 22, 2005, a few days after the organization was formed, ACVR officials were called to testify by Republican members of Congress before a House Administration Committee hearing held by Rep. Bob Ney (R-OH) ranking member McDonald.
In July 2005, they published a report claiming that "paid Democrat operatives were far more involved in voter intimidation and suppression activities than were their Republican counterparts during the 2004 presidential election".
On May 18, 2007 Richard L. Hasen of Slate reports that ACVR—the only prominent nongovernmental organization claiming that voter fraud is a major problem, a problem warranting strict rules such as voter-ID laws—simply stopped appearing at government panels and conferences. The DoJ devoted unprecedented resources to ferreting out polling-place fraud over five years and appears to have found not a single prosecutable case across the country," Slate reported.
In June 2007 Wikipedia's info on ACVR is deleted and restored, but someone at Lathrop & Gage un-restores it according to Bradblog
