Great Britain
From dKosopedia
An island country in Europe off the coast of France.
Strictly, Great Britain is the portion of the United Kingdom which consists of the main island (called Britain) which is split into two kingdoms and one principality (respectively, England, Scotland, and Wales). Also part of the United Kingdom is part of the island of Ireland known as the Province of Northern Ireland.
The name Great Britain arises from the French Grande Bretagne (Big Brittany) used to distinguish the island of Britain from Brittany (Bretagne) which is a westerly province of France. So originally it wasn't a boast about how wonderful the place is.
The full title for the nation is "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland". For much more detailed treatment of this country, see the article "United Kingdom".
