Former Democratic Senator from Maine, 1980-1995; Senate Majority Leader, 1989-1995; Architect of the 1998 Northern Ireland peace plan; and the new chairman of Disney.

A protege of the great Maine Democrat Edmund Muskie, Mitchell was appointed to his Senate seat in 1980 after Muskie resigned to serve as Secretary of State under Jimmy Carter.
