Iceland

Iceland is an island nation in the North Atlantic Ocean between Greenland and the United Kingdom. It was originally settled by Vikings in approximately 900 AD, and Iceland boasts the world's oldest functioning legislative assembly, the Althing, established in 930. Eventually, the country was ruled by Norway and Denmark, until it was granted independence in 1944. The capital is Reykjavik, and the total population is 300,000 people.

Iceland is a member of NATO, but not the European Union.
