International Court of Justice

From dKosopedia

The International Court of Justice is also known as the World Court.

It hears complaints of violations of international law between states. It's decisions on state-to-state questions are non-binding. States can appeal to the Security Council for enforcement of ICJ decisions (Article 94).

UN agencies can request legal advisory opinions by the ICJ (Article 96).

The ICJ is in the Hague.

It was created by Chapter 14 of the United Nations Charter.

It consists of 15 judges elected by the Security Council and General Assembly. All judges must come from different countries. The International Criminal Court is an entirely separate body with its own jurisdiction.
