John Laesch (D) ran for Congress in Illinois' Fourteenth District seat in the 2006 election mid-term election. He lost to the corrupt former Speaker of the House, Dennis Hastert. Laesch is one of the Fighting Dems.
John Laesch was born on January 29th, 1974, in Monrovia, Liberia to missionary parents. He spent much of his childhood in West Africa. In 1986, the Laesch family returned to the United States and settled on a small farm in of Newark, IL. John enlisted in the Navy in 1995, graduated at the top of his class and throughout his tour of duty, received numerous citations, meritoriously rising 5 ranks within 3 short years, as an intelligence analyst in Bahrain.
Following an honorable discharge from the military, Laesch attended Illinois State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in History, while pursuing minors in Political Science and Communications.
Laesch’s desire to create positive change for the nation led him to become involved in political affairs. John volunteered for numerous political campaigns, and took on higher leadership roles in each subsequent campaign. In 2004, Laesch served as the campaign manager for Dr. David Gill in the Illinois 15th Congressional District.
Laesch ran for Congress again in 2008, but lost the primary to Bill Foster.
John is currently employed as a carpenter, and in his free time, he enjoys biking, fishing, and working on the family farm.
