Katherine Harris

From dKosopedia

2006 Senate Race

Insiders predict the 49 year old will withdraw from the Senate race. Republicans are afraid her name on the ballot will mobilize Democrats who might not otherwise vote. Harris achieved infamy during the 2000 presidential election, when as Florida's secretary of state she was responsible for certifying the disputed deciding votes in the election of George W. Bush.

Money Problems

Harris has admitted to receiving $32,000 of illegal campaign contributions from Mitchell Wade, the CEO of MZM, a corrupt defense contractor who admitted bribing former U.S. Congressman Randy Cunningham. (She has contributed that money to charity.) This is similar to another incident, when insurance executives from Riscorp admitted to illegally donating $20,000 to her 1994 campaign.

In an article in the July 2006 issue of The Progressive, "On the Bus with Katherine Harris," (pages 29-31) Stephen Elliott writes that she has injected some $3 million of her own money into her faltering election campaign. That's 3 million of the $10 million that she inherited from her father. Elliott reports that Democrats are delioghted to see her squander the entire sum on a failed campaign. Boobery

Some critics have derided Harris for trying to highlight her "feminine" attributes in campaign appearances. In particular an appearance on Hannity & Colmes in which she stood in profile for the entire interview (being shown from the waist up) as an attempt to feature her breasts as prominently as possible. Video of the appearance was posted on Crooks and Liars, and bloggers have provided additional photographs of Harris, with criticism. [1][2]

The Daily Show satirized Harris regarding her boob show refering to her attire at a rodeo campaign stop as "tit-hugging spandex", along with other sexually themed comments about Harris.[3]

Right Wing Talking Head Michelle Malkin rebuked Harris's critics, charging them with "liberal sexism."[4]. However, some conservatives have also criticized Harris for her choice of tight clothing in campaign appearances.[5]

Other Peculiar Behavior

Harris was a headlined speaker at the 'Reclaim America for Christ Conference 2006'. The stated mission of the group is to 'come together to reclaim this land for Christ.' This Christian movement seeks to remove the separation of church and state.
