Mark Foley

Mark Foley (R) is a former member of the U.S. House, where he represented the 16th District of Florida. He was elected to Congress in 1994, and before that he was a city commissioner and vice mayor of Lake Worth, FL.. He was a member of the Florida state house of representatives from 1990-1992, and a member of the Florida state senate from 1993-1995. Foley suddenly decided to resign from Congress and end his re-election campaign in 2006, after the disclosure of questionable emails from himself to teenagers, see Florida U.S. House election, 2006. Foley had been the chair of the House Caucus on Missing and Exploited Children.

Inappropriate Emails and Sexually Explicit Instant Messages

Foley has admitted writing a series of "overly friendly" emails to a 16 year old Congressional page in which he asked the young man for a photo. He was also confronted by ABC News about a series of sexually explicit instant messages with another teenage page (ABC Story here) (Text of instant message here). These IMs prompted Foley to immediately submit his resignation.
