Mary Fallin is the Republican who represents Oklahoma's heavily Republican 5th District seat in Congress, which was vacated by Rep. Ernest Istook, see Oklahoma U.S. House election, 2006. She is only the second woman to be elected to Congress from Oklahoma.
Fallin served three terms as Lt. Gov. of Oklahoma. The Tecumseh, Oklahoma native defeated Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett in a runoff election for the Republican nomination to run for Congress. She then defeated the Democratic nominee, David Hunter. Democrat Jari Askins was elected to be Oklahoma's new Lt. Governor.
She was first elected as Lt. Gov. in 1994, and before that she served four years in the State House.
She graduated from Oklahoma State University, and she has two children.
