Prohibition

Prohibition was a political movement to ban the commerical production, importation, sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages. Although it responded to the social costs of heavy alcohol consumption, the prohibition movement also taped into growing anti-Catholic, anti-immigrant sentiments.
