Rastafari movement

From dKosopedia

The Rastafari movement is composed of people who believe in the divinity of His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia, former Emperor of Ethiopia 1930-1974.

His divinity was recognised by some Jamaicans from the publicity surrounding his coronation in Addis Ababa on November 2, 1930. Until his coronation he was called Ras (meaning Prince) Tafari Makennon, and his followers called themselves Rastafarians after him.

The movement was barely known outside the Caribbean until Bob Marley made it famous through his preaching, and his songs performed as a reggae musician of worldwide fame. Rastafarians are best known for their dreadlocks, and for their use of cannabis as a sacrament.
