Shelley Moore Capito

Shelley Moore Capito is the Republican Representative from the 2nd District of West Virginia. Capito was born on November 26, 1953 in Glen Dale, West Virginia. She received B.S. from Duke University and and M.Ed. from the University of Virginia. She is married and a Presbyterian.

Capito is a member of League of Women Voters. She also is a member of both The Republican Main Street Partnership (which supports stem-cell research) and The Wish List (Women In the Senate and House), a group of pro-choice Republican women. Capito is a moderate Republican.

2008 Election

She is expected to run for re-election unless she decides to challenge Sen. Jay Rockefeller. As of May, 2007 there are no declared Democratic candidates for WV-02. The strongest, most likely candidate is State Sen. John Unger. He is being recruited by the DCCC and is actively considering a run.

2006 Election

She defeated former West Virginia Democratic Party Chairman Mike Callaghan, see West Virginia U.S. House election, 2006.

Capito is the daughter of convicted criminal and former West Virginia Governor Arch Moore. Arch A. Moore, Jr., served twice as that state's Governor (1969-1977; 1985-1989).
