Three Mile Island was a nuclear power plant in Pennsylvania. The meltdown accident that took place there in 1979 is the worst nuclear power related accident in United States history, and has significantly impeded the progress of nuclear energy as an option in the United States. No new nuclear power plants projects have commenced in the United State in the two and a half decades since the accient.
