Wayne Thomas Gilchrest, born April 15, 1946, is a is a Moderate/Liberal Republican member of the United States House of Representatives representing the 1st district of the State of Maryland since 1991.
A decorated war hero (he took two to the chest) Gilchrest has consistently voted in favor of fiscal conservatism and environmental protection, namely reducing federal spending and eliminating the deficit, and supporting environmental protection of the Chesapeake Bay region, and enhancing and encouraging economic development within the 1st District of Maryland.
Iraq War Votes
- Gilchrest was one of two Republicans who voted in favor of HR 1591, which set a firm deadline of August 31, 2008 for U.S. troops to be out of Iraq. (House Roll Call 186, March 23, 2007).
2008 back stab
For the "crime" of voting against the Iraq war in 2008 the GOP nominated Gul War Vet/War Monger Andrew P. Harris to run for Gilchrest's seat. He will face Democrat Frank Kratovil Jr, whom he later endorsed.[1] He also endorsed Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama. [2]
