Czech Republic

From dKosopedia

The Czech Republic is a country located in Central Europe, between Germany, Poland, Slovakia and Austria. Its capital and largest city is Prague. The population is 10 million people, with the GDP of $16800 per person.

The Czech Republic is the western part of what used to be Czechoslovakia. Czechoslovakia was created out of the Austro-Hungarian Empire after World War I. After World War II, the country was dominated by the Soviet Union, but it regained autonomy after the Velvet Revolution of 1989, and reoriented itself towards the West. In 1993, Czechoslovakia split into two parts: the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

The Czech Republic joined NATO in 1999 and the European Union in 2004.
