Maria Cantwell (born October 13, 1958, Indianapolis, Ind.) is the junior Senator from Washington. Cantwell was first elected to the senate in 2000. She defeated Slade Gorton in an extremely close race, finally winning by just over 2,000 votes. Previously she was an executive for Real Networks, and a Representative in Washington's First Congressional District (1993-1995).
