Conrad Burns (R)
Republican Conrad Burns is up for re-election. He had some opposition in the Republican Party primary, but easily won re-nomination with 75% of the vote. Narrative
Montana has been trending blue, and Burns might just get caught up in it. A number of minor scandals have surfaced, especially involving Jack Abramoff of Tom Delay fame. A recent poll had Burn's relect number pegged at 36%. Morrison declared for the race in April, and Tester is also in the running. It is expected that if both Morrison and Tester run it will be a very competitive democratic primary.

A new Rasmussen Reports poll shows the barrage of bad publicity about Conrad Burns' close ties to Abramoff have taken a major toll. His once double-digit lead over the two leading Democrats is gone. Burns and liberal State Senate President Jon Tester (D) are tied at 45% apiece. Burns leads State Auditor John Morrison (D) by a narrow 46% to 43% vote. Posted by Ron Gunzburger - 01.12.06 [1]
Morrison has been badly damaged by reports that he failed to enforce a securities fraud settlement with Venue Tech, because he had an affair with the wife of Venue Tech's president. (DailyKos story) Morrison was also a strong supporter of the Defense of Marriage Amendment.
