Open politics

The open politics movement fuses the open content and free software movements with a number of transparency trends in politics itself. It has affected the way that candidates, party officials and especially journalists approach issues.

A highly visible aspect of this movement is so-called open source journalism. This is a confusing and misleading term since source and open source in journalism imply very different things that in software. Some just prefer open journalism, and see it being fostered by widespread access to the Internet, blogs, and group participation by interested volunteers in researching news stories. Quality and accuracy tend to "bubble to the top" through community efforts and continuous feedback in the process. An emerging and potent competitor to traditional commercial news and information sources, including the SCLM, Internet journalism (and journalists) have broken major political stories, such as the Jeff Gannon scandal.
