On the Floor
Major issues discussed and major actions taken on the floor:
- Senate confirmed the nomination of Lieutenant General David H. Petraeus to be General and Commander, Multi-National Forces—Iraq.
- Fair Minimum Wage: Senate continued consideration of H.R. 2, to amend the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938 to provide for an increase in the Federal minimum wage
- A motion was entered to close further debate on Amendment No. 100 and, in accordance with the provisions of Rule XXII of the Standing Rules of the Senate, a vote on cloture for the amendment will occur on Tuesday, January 30, 2007.
- A motion was entered to close further debate on the bill and, in accordance with the provisions of Rule XXII of the Standing Rules of the Senate, a vote on cloture will occur on Tuesday, January 30, 2007, following the vote on the above listed motion to invoke cloture.
- A unanimous-consent agreement was reached providing that Members have until 3 p.m., Monday, January 29, 2007, to file any first-degree amendments.

Green, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Strategic Capabilities; and General James E. Cartwright, Commander, United States Strategic Command.
