Senate Daily Summary
The session began with Harry Reid (Majority Leader) speaking about the Senate's schedule for the day, noting that most of the legislative session would be tied up on 29 pending amendments to the minimum wage bill, most offered up by the Republicans that are not germaine to the bill itself. He then went on to not that in the ten years since the last time the minmum wage had been increased, the cost of food went up 23%, health care costs 45%, the cost of housing about 30%, the cost of gas 135% and that Congress managed to give themselves $30,000 per year raises, while the minimum wage remained flat. He hoped that by the next day they could finally have cloture on the bill.
Mr. Reid then spoke about the other issue that hopefully they could have meaningful debate on was the issue of Iraq and the President's proposed troop escalation.
