Calvin Coolidge, a Republican, was the 30th President of the United States. He was Warren G. Harding's Vice President and took office when Harding died in 1923. He completed Harding's term and was elected in 1924 to a second term.
Like Harding he was anti-labor and anti-League of Nations. He reduced the national debt and vetoed aid bills for World War I veterans and farmers. The bill to aid veterans eventually passed, the farm bill did not.
His political career developed in Massachusetts where he served in various roles and eventually as Governor where he crushed a police strike in Boston with the national guard.
