The United States House Committee on Homeland Security, is a standing committee of the United States House of Representatives, responsible for reviewing all Government activities related to homeland security, including oversight of (and agency interaction with) the Department of Homeland Security. Its counterpart is the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs.

The House Committee on Homeland Security has jurisdiction over the following:
1. Overall homeland security policy.
2. Organization and administration of the Department of Homeland Security.
3. Functions of the Department of Homeland Security relating to:
- Border and port security (except immigration policy and non-border enforcement);
- Customs (except customs revenue);
- Integration, analysis, and dissemination of homeland security information;
- Domestic preparedness for and collective response to terrorism;
- Research and development;
- Transportation security.

This Committee was first established in 2002 and became a permanent (standing) committee in January 2005.
According to the website, webcasts of the Committee hearings/markups should be operational starting Fall 2006. The last Committee hearing was September 28, 2006 (no webcast) and there were no hearings or markups in October 2006.

- February 20, 2007: Respective Chairs and Ranking Members of both the Full Committee and the House Subcommittee on Emerging Threats, Cybersecurity, and Science and Technology introduced H.R. 1089, the Project BioShield Material Threats Act of 2007. The BioShield Program was created to develop and procure medical countermeasures against dangerous chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) agents. This legislation is designed to facilitate a more rapid completion of material threat assessments.
- February 9, 2007: Chair Bennie Thompson (D-MS), Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX), Peter DeFazio (D-OR), Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), Henry Cueller (D-TX) and Christopher Carney (D-PA) introduced the Intelligence Community Audit Act of 2007, which would reaffirm the authority of the Comptroller General of the United States and head of the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to conduct audits and evaluate the intelligence community for Congress. The audits and evaluations would include financial transactions, programs, and information sharing. The bill also provides security procedures for the GAO to perform oversight of sensitive information.
- February 8, 2007: Chair and Ranking Member introduced Promoting Anti-terrorism Cooperation through Technology and Science (PACTS) Act, allowing greater international coordination in sharing scientific information and in the development of homeland security technologies.

- December 6, 2006: Ranking Member Rep. Bennie Thompson issued this statement criticizing President Bush's Executive Order: Strengthening Surface Transportation Security, available here, by calling the order "yet another smokescreen" and insufficient to address "security gaps" in surface transportation.
- November 15, 2006: The U.N.'s International Labor Office ruled that the 56,000 baggage screeners in the Transportation Security Administration have the right to bargain collectively. This unenforceable opinion came in response to a complaint filed by the American Federation of Government Employees, the largest federal employee union that already represents TSA's screeners. Current House Committee on Homeland Security Chair (King)'s response: "United Nations is out of line."
